Rookie KKR Pacer Gets Maiden Ranji Trophy Call Up for 2024-25 Season

He hasn’t played any red-ball cricket so far but is expected to be part of the XI at some stage this time around.

A rookie Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player has been included in his domestic side for the upcoming edition of the Ranji Trophy. While he didn’t get to play for the Knight Riders, the player is touted as one of the brightest talents and one for the future.

Sakib Hussain, the young fast bowler of KKR, is part of his domestic side, Bihar, for the upcoming red-ball carnival. He hasn’t played any red-ball cricket so far but is expected to be part of the XI at some stage this time around.

So far, he has played only two games for his state side in the T20 format, snaring 4 wickets at 11.75 runs apiece in 2022. Apart from the T20 format, Sakib hasn’t played in any other format at this level, but his recent improvements and learnings from the KKR camp will help him make his debut in other formats as well.

Before being bought by the Knight Riders in the IPL 2024 auction, Sakib was a net bowler with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). From whatever is visible from the net sessions and those around him, Sakib is supremely talented and can bowl at a high speed, which is why the hype around him is massive.

Veer Pratap Singh to lead Bihar side in the Ranji Trophy

After Patna High Court’s late intervention, the squad of Bihar for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season has finally been decided. The decision was taken by the committee led by Madhusudan Tantubhai.

The players of the Bihar team were caught in a struggle after two separate camps were held by former BCA Secretary Amiy Kumar and the current president Rakesh Tiwari. However, after much drama and controversy, the team was selected, and the 20-member squad travelled to Rohtak for Bihar’s first game of the season against Haryana.

Veer Pratap Singh will captain the side, and Shakibul Gani will be the vice-captain. It will be interesting to see whether Sakib starts for his state side in the first game.

Bihar are in Group C with Bengal, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. Their first game against Haryana starts tomorrow in Rohtak.
