Former India cricketer highlights one quality Rohit Sharma should learn from MS Dhoni

He urged Rohit to take a leaf out of Dhoni's captaincy and try and implement it in his own.

Coming into the ongoing IND vs NZ 1st Test, India were brewing with confidence after recently sweeping neighbours Bangladesh 2-0 in the longest format.

However, the Men in Blue suffered a big shock when they ended up registering their lowest total at home (46 all out).

The visiting Kiwi team capitalised on the situation and took a healthy lead of 356 runs as the Indian bowlers struggled to find wickets at regular intervals.

Rachin Ravindra slammed a stellar ton and Devon Conway played a deft knock to send India on the backfoot.

After New Zealand ended Day 2 with 7 wickets in hand, India aimed for a strong start on Day 3 and found some early success.

Despite this, Rachin Ravindra’s century and Tim Southee’s late 49 helped New Zealand extend their lead to 299 runs by lunch. Although India managed to take four wickets during the first session, Rachin and Southee dealt significant damage in the latter half, adding 58 runs in the final four overs before the break.

Echoing on the same lines, a former India cricketer opined that skipper Rohit Sharma should have done better to do damage control.

Ex-India star wants Rohit Sharma to learn from MS Dhoni’s captaincy

Ex-cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar urged Rohit to take a leaf out of former India captain MS Dhoni’s captaincy and try and implement it in his own.

Manjrekar took to his social media account on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote,

“Dhoni had this very unique ability to preempt & make a bowling change before the damage went out of control. Rohit needs to bring that quality into his leadership.”

Speaking about the match, India have resumed their second innings after New Zealand posted 402 at the end of their first innings.

At the time of writing this report, the India scoreboard read 51 for 0 in 12.4 overs with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal currently at the crease.
