Shafali Verma dropped as India Women ODI squad announced for Australia tour

Shafali scored only 97 runs in four matches at the T20 World Cup and 56 runs in three ODI matches against New Zealand, which could be the reason for her exclusion.

The Women’s Selection Committee have announced the Team India (Senior Women) squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. One notable absence from the squad is Shafali Verma.

Harmanpreet Kaur will captain India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia next month. This series is part of the ICC Women’s Championship, with both India and Australia already qualified for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2026.

Smriti Mandhana will serve as vice-captain for the series. Yastika Bhatia and Richa Ghosh are the designated wicketkeepers in the 16-player squad. Richa, who missed the New Zealand series due to her class 12th board exams, has now rejoined the team.

Shafali Verma has been left out of the squad. She scored only 97 runs in four matches at the T20 World Cup and 56 runs in three ODI matches against New Zealand, which could be the reason for her exclusion.

Shreyanka Patil is also excluded from the squad. Whereas, all-rounder Harleen Deol is back in the squad for her first international match of 2024. The 26-year-old had been dealing with a knee injury for much of the year but has now been included in the squad.

India’s squad for three-match ODI series: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Priya Punia, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harleen Deol, Yastika Bhatia (WK), Richa Ghosh (WK), Tejal Hasabnis, Deepti Sharma, Minnu Mani, Priya Mishra, Radha Yadav, Titas Sadhu, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, Saima Thakor.
