Shahid Afridi has been tested positive for COVID-19

Afridi happens to be the third Pakistani Cricketer to have been tested positive for the virus. Last month, it was reported that former Pakistani left handed opening batsman Taufeeq Umar was tested positive for the virus. Thankfully, Umar recovered from coronavirus after going into a 14-day self quarantine at home. He then underwent a second test after 14 days which came out to be negative in the first week of June. Among domestic Cricketers, Zafar Sarfaraz was infected too.

Among Cricketers from other countries, Scotland’s Majid Haq and South Africa’s Solo Nqweni have unfortunately contracted the virus.

Last month, Shahid Afridi stepped in to buy a bat owned by Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim after a charity auction for coronavirus victims was derailed by fake bids. Mushfiqur auctioned the bat he used to score Bangladesh’s first Test double hundred in 2013 against Sri Lanka up for the highest bidder online this week. But organisers called off the auction as fake offers sent the price soaring over USD 50,000.

The Bangladeshi wicketkeeper batsman later said, “Afridi contacted me personally and I sent him a link of the bid. On May 13 he sent me a letter and offered USD 20,000. He bought my bat with this money. I am really privileged.”

Since his debut in 1996, Afridi has proved himself to be one of the more impactful all rounders of the game in limited overs Cricket, in 398 One-day Internationals and 99 Twenty20 Internationals, Afridi has scored 8,064 and 1,016 runs and taken 395 and 98 wickets respectively. The winning runs for Pakistan in the 2009 T20 World Cup came off his pads.
