Shan Masood hits out at Pakistani cricket analyst for criticizing his playing approach

Pakistan batter Shan Masood has hit out a journalist for taking a dig at him and Multan Sultans for not taking enough risks in certain matches during the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The team, led by Mohammad Rizwan, won the tournament back in 2021 and a lot was expected of them. They lost only a single game in the league stage and won nine matches.

Thereafter, they defeated Lahore Qalandars in the Qualifier and made their way through to the final. But they lost the final to the Qalandars, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, and finished as the runners-up. The journalist reckoned that although Rizwan was scoring heaps of runs and became the Player of the Tournament, he wasn’t able to create much of an impact.

Journalist takes a dig at Rizwan and Masood

The journalist felt that Rizwan’s strike rate of 126 on excellent batting strips in Lahore and Karachi didn’t help the Sultans. He also took a dig at left-hander Shan Masood for “eating too many balls” and putting pressure on the other batters in the team.

He stated that Masood and Rizwan are batters of similar natures and one of them needed to go for their shots. The journo also said that the “slow approach” from both batters isn’t sustainable for T20 cricket and that Khushdil Shah was the standout batter for the Sultans, although he faced only 84 balls in the entire tournament.

As per the journo, Shah should have been utilized in a better way by the Sultans. He also reasoned why bowlers are rarely adjudged Player of the Tournaments. In the meantime, Masood, who opened the batting for the Sultans, was a tad miffed with the journalist.

He asked the journalist to not tamper with fact. He was also clear-cut in saying that he spoke only about the match against the Babar Azam-led Karachi Kings.

Shan Masood’s tweets

Shan Masood took to Twitter and wrote, “Please do not misconstrue facts. When I spoke about messing up, it was only referring to the KK match and not other games as you’ve said. Secondly, you’ve also wrongly interpreted what I said on TV during my time with ten sports.”
