Sports Ministry of India gives green light to UAE hosting the IPL

The first step of approval from the Indian government for the IPL to take place in the United Arab Emirates has been granted. The sports ministry of India have provided the seal of approval to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday, according to reports from the Indian Express.

Now, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Union Home Ministry (MHA) have to give their clearances for following which the 13th edition of IPL is all set to be held out of India amid the coronavirus pandemic scare.

Earlier, Brijesh Patel, IPL chairperson, confirmed that the BCCI have sent the acceptance letter granted from their government to the Emirates Cricket Board. He told the Khaleej Times on Sunday, “Yes, we have sent the acceptance letter to the Emirates Cricket Board and both the boards will be working together from now on to stage the tournament. The teams need at least three to four weeks to prepare for the tournament.”

The Emirates Cricket Board confirmed the same later on, stating that the BCCI did send a letter indeed. Emirates Cricket Board secretary Mubashshir Usmani said, “We have received the (official) letter and now wait on the decision from the Indian government which will ink the final deal.”

Further details about when the teams will depart, dates and timings of the matches, SOPs, etc are expected to be announced after IPL Governing Council meeting next week.
