Sunil Gavaskar blasts Gautam Gambhir, brings up his average in Australia to question his credentials as coach

Gambhir himself faced difficulties in Australia, having played four Tests in which he scored 181 runs at an average of 22.62.

Former India opener calls out head coach Gautam Gambhir’s low Test average in Australia while urging him to guide the batters in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

After a disappointing batting performance against New Zealand, which resulted in India’s first-ever 3-0 whitewash at home in Test matches, questions have been raised about the team’s batting skills.

In a discussion with Sports Tak, former Indian opener and cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar mentioned that the upcoming series against Australia will be a significant challenge. He suggested that head coach Gautam Gambhir should step in to help guide the Indian batters.

“Gautam Gambhir will have to guide the players in Australia properly as the team will face a very tough time there,” Gavaskar said.

Although India already have Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches, Gavaskar believes that Gambhir has more experience than both of them. He feels that Gambhir’s involvement could provide the necessary support to help the players improve their performance and rebuild their confidence ahead of the tough series against Australia.

He has made more runs than both Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate in Test cricket, so only Gautam Gambhir will have to tell the players about how to bat in Australia and what should be the batting approach, maybe we can come up with a good perfromance,” Gavaskar added.

Gambhir himself faced difficulties in Australia, having played four Tests in which he scored 181 runs at an average of 22.62.
