Top Indian Finisher Attends RCB Trials, Could Be a Target for IPL 2025 Auction

With Punjab Kings retaining only two players, both uncapped, they will not have the option to use the Right to Match (RTM) card for Ashutosh Sharma in the auction.

Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, a former Punjab Kings player has been seen participating in trials conducted by Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Ashutosh Sharma, aged 26, who was signed by Punjab Kings for INR 20 lakh during the IPL 2024 auction, is now reportedly attracting interest from Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The former Punjab Kings player excelled as a finisher alongside Shashank Singh in IPL 2024, amassing 189 runs in 11 matches at a remarkable strike rate of 167.25.

With Punjab Kings retaining only two players, both uncapped, they will not have the option to use the Right to Match (RTM) card for Ashutosh Sharma in the auction. If Punjab Kings want him back, they will need to compete with other franchises to secure his services.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru could be a strong contender for Ashutosh Sharma. They have already invited him for trials and are likely looking for a dependable finisher, a role they have struggled with in the last few seasons.

RCB’s Search for a Finisher: Could Ashutosh Sharma Be the Answer?

RCB have experimented with several players in the finisher role, but have struggled to find consistent success.

Dinesh Karthik, who had been the team’s reliable finisher, has now retired, leaving RCB with a significant gap in this area. As a result, RCB will undoubtedly place more focus on securing a strong finisher in the upcoming auction.

If RCB manages to acquire Ashutosh Sharma, he could thrive in their setup. His ability to turn a game on his own, coupled with his power-hitting skills and impressive strike rate, makes him a strong contender. Moreover, the short boundaries of the Chinnaswamy Stadium would suit his playing style, further enhancing his potential impact in the team.

RCB have a healthy purse of INR 83 crore remaining, giving them room to make strategic signings. Ahead of the retention deadline, they opted to retain three players: Virat Kohli (INR 21 crore), Rajat Patidar (INR 11 crore), and Yash Dayal (INR 5 crore).
