The video reveals that Iyer asked for INR 30 crores from the Kolkata Knight Riders, which ultimately resulted in the team management deciding not to retain him. Despite several rounds of discussions between the two parties, they couldn’t come to an agreement. During his time with Delhi Capitals, Shreyas requested INR 20 crores from the franchise for his retention.
Shreyas Iyer’s departure from Kolkata Knight Riders has come as a surprise for many, especially considering his key role in leading the team to the IPL 2024 title. His performance was crucial throughout the tournament, and under his leadership, KKR appeared to be one of the toughest teams.
Iyer joined KKR for INR 12.25 crore in the 2022 auction and quickly became one of their standout players. However, his first season as captain didn’t go as expected, with the team being eliminated early from the tournament.
The following year, Iyer missed the IPL due to a back injury, but he made an impressive return in IPL 2024. Not only did he captain KKR to victory, but he also excelled with the bat, scoring 351 runs in 14 games, including two half-centuries.
In total, Shreyas has played 115 IPL matches and has also captained Delhi Capitals, leading them to the final in 2020.
Reports suggest that several franchises have already shown interest in Shreyas Iyer. Given his significant impact in the IPL, it’s likely he’ll attract a major bid in the auction, with teams closely watching his availability.
With Shreyas Iyer being released, Kolkata Knight Riders have retained 6 players in the team. Rinku Singh was the top retention for the team as he was retained at INR 13 crore. They also retained two uncapped players Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh for INR 4 crore.
Apart from that, Kolkata Knight Riders also retained Varun Chakaravarthy, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell. All three players have been retained at the price of INR 12 crore. It remains to be seen who will captain Kolkata Knight Riders going into the next season of the league.
