Virat Kohli eyes massive record in 1st IND vs NZ Test; only 53 runs away from joining Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar

Kohli, however, will have to wait for the record with the opening day of the match getting washed out due to rain.

Former India skipper and star batter Virat Kohli is on the brink of achieving a major milestone in the ongoing IND vs NZ 1st Test.

Interestingly, Kohli is only 53 runs away from reaching the feat. However, Kohli will have to wait to claim the record with the opening day of the match getting washed out due to rain.

The 35-year-old is on the verge of joining the elite 9000-run club in Test cricket. If he reaches this milestone, he will become the fourth Indian batter to do so, following Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar. Tendulkar holds the record for the most Test runs ever, with 15,921, making him the highest run-scorer among Indian players.

Virat Kohli will hope to get back in sublime form ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Virat Kohli has faced challenges in red-ball cricket over the last couple of years but will be eager to regain top form before the upcoming tour of Australia. During the recent two-match Bangladesh Test series, Kohli registered scores of 6 and 17 in the first Test but managed to make slight amends with 47 and 29* in the second game.

India will face a tough challenge in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with the five-match series set to begin on November 22. Prior to that, Virat also has the opportunity to reach 1,000 Test runs against New Zealand, becoming the third batter after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to achieve this milestone.

India has experienced back-to-back defeats in the World Test Championship (WTC) finals against New Zealand and Australia, and they will be looking to improve their record if they reach the final again.
