Kohli's persisting problems with spin got highlighted once again against New Zealand
Former India skipper and star batter Virat Kohli has been having a lean patch in the longest format for sometime.
His fortunes didn’t change in the first two IND vs NZ Tests as well, registering scores of 0, 70, 1 and 17 across the four innings.
To put things into perspective, Kohli’s numbers in whites have taken a hit a massive hit since 2020, having notched up only two hundreds in the period.
Virat Kohli last recorded a Test century in mid-2023 on India’s tour of the West Indies. Since then, he has played 12 innings, reaching fifty runs just twice. The dynamic right-hander’s Test average has now dropped to a shade above 48.
Furthermore, Kohli’s persisting problems with spin were highlighted as he was dismissed by spinners three out of the four times against the Kiwis.
Echoing on the same lines, former India wicketkeeper-batter and Kohli ex-teammate in RCB, Dinesh Karthik, proposed a suggestion to help the star India batter find form.
Karthik highlighted that Kohli must find ways to eradicate the repeated pattern of getting dismissed against spin bowling.
Karthik said while speaking to Cricbuzz, “At the moment Virat Kohli’s Test record in the last 2-3 years, has not been great against spin.”
“What he needs to do is probably go back to domestic cricket and focus on what needs to be done with the current rules of DRS. There is no doubt the left-arm spinners pose a big threat.”
Notably, Kohli has not featured in a domestic First-Class match since 2012.
With the marquee Border Gavaskar Trophy lined up next, Karthik’s suggestion can really help Kohli to assess and fix specific areas in his batting as India eyes a record hattrick of wins in Australia next.
