Kishan had got India to a bit of a flyer, with two sixes off Keshav Maharaj in the very first over.

Ishan Kishan tonked two sixes in the first over of the India-South Africa series decider in Bangalore on Friday, igniting hopes of another high-score. However, his joy was short-lived, as he was undone by Lungi Ngidi’s brilliance in the very next over.

South Africa won the toss for the fifth straight time in the series, and opted to field with rain around the corner. It started pelting down just as the players took the field, prompting a 50-minute delay and a 19-over per side reduced affair.

Kishan took on South Africa skipper Keshav Maharaj on just the second ball, striking the left-arm spinner into the stands over deep mid-wicket, before following it with another the very next ball.

Ngidi however, didn’t allow Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad to capitalise on the early blitz, conceding just two singles and a wide in the second over before removing Kishan. The right-arm quick made a smart change of pace from round the wicket, delivering a perfect dipping yorker to send the left-hander’s off-stump cartwheeling. Kishan was clearly beaten by the change of pace, and was quite early into the stroke only to miss it completely.

Ngidi’s ball was similar to the ones usually delivered by West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, and mastered by India’s Harshal Patel in recent years.

Ngidi continued to dent India, removing Ruturaj Gaikwad for 10 in his very next over. Another rain interruption followed, with India 28/2 in the fourth over with skipper Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer at the crease.

The series is currently levelled at 2-2, with South Africa having won the first two games in Delhi and Cuttack respectively, before hosts made a strong comeback in Visakhapatnam and Rajkot thereafter.
