‘Who will do a Mankad now?’ – Twitter goes crazy as Jos Buttler and Ravichandran Ashwin bat together for Rajasthan Royals in the RR vs GT
The history between Ravichandran Ashwin and Jos Buttler is pretty well known. In the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League, Ashwin was miffed at Buttler taking an unfair advantage at the non-striker’s end while batting and ran him out before bowling a ball, leading to unpleasant reactions from the England player and wild reactions on social media.
A year later Ashwin spoke about the incident to Times of India.
“When the incident happened, I think it was Jos who felt deflated about it and quite upset. Rightly so, because it’s not accepted practice. It’s not something that happens day in and day out. I can totally understand that. We’ll have to wait and watch. But the pace at which the game is going, the professionals are evolving and how the players are perceiving the game, I just hope and wish that it is looked upon as a legitimate form of dismissal,” Ashwin had told The Times of India.
Three years since it happened, the two are playing together for Rajasthan Royals with the auction dynamics forcing the two together and on Thursday it reached incredible levels when Ashwin was pushed up the order to No.3 and batted alongside Buttler for a brief while.
