According to a report by RevSportz, Steve Smith suffered an injury scare while practising ahead of the second Test in Adelaide, starting December 6. He sustained a blow on his finger while having a throwdown from Marnus Labuschagne in the net session and immediately removed his glove to check the part where the injury occurred.
He was visibly in pain after sustaining the blow and had an elaborate chat with Marnus, whose throw hit his fingers. Later, the team physio attended to him and inspected the injured part, but Smith had to leave the nets due to being in severe pain.
It is not a good sign for Australia after being already behind in the five-match Test series against India after losing the first Test in Perth. Josh Hazlewood is already out of the next game due to a side strain, and Australia have suffered another blow, this time their premium batter who bats at No.4.

If Smith and Hazlewood are absent from the next game, India’s chances will be boosted further, given Australia will lose two key players from their strongest XI. The team would hope Smith recovers in time since there are still three days to go in the second game.
Steve Smith was already struggling with form, and this injury will exacerbate his case further. This year, he has 230 runs at an average of 25.55 in 12 innings, including only a solitary fifty.
Barring a 91* against the West Indies in Brisbane earlier this year, Smith hasn’t done anything significant with the willow. With David Warner retired, he decided to open the innings, but the move didn’t reap expected returns, prompting Smith to revert to the No.4 spot.
In the first Test against India, Smith scored 0 & 17 and looked at sea in both innings. Now this fresh injury will restrict his movements further.
For now, he will be assessed further and a call will be taken later. Most Australian batters are already out of form, and if Smith misses out, the problems will increase further.
