One of the biggest talking points to emerge out of the opening day of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction was the inclusion of off-spinner R Ashwin to Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) camp. Ashwin, who played for Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2021, went to RR for a sum of INR 5 crores after finding a spot in the marquee list of cricketers.

The experienced spinner’s imminent tryst with RR also means he unites with star England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler, along with whom he was part of one of IPL’s major controversies.

As is known, it was Buttler whom R Ashwin ran out at the non-striker’s end during the 2019 edition of the IPL. Captaining the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the time, Ashwin triggered widespread debates when he dismissed Buttler short of his crease at the other end while playing against RR in Jaipur.

Earlier, in their respective video messages, R Ashwin said he is looking forward to playing with Buttler while the latter was equally welcoming of the prospect and amusingly said “Don’t worry, I will stay inside the crease.”

Now, when a Twitter user pulled a rabbit out of the hat and asked whether Ashwin would look to run-out Buttler at the non-striker’s end in RR’s team practise match, the Indian off-spinner made a cheeky response and asked in return if doing it in the nets would suffice?

R Ashwin’s remarks for the user were seen as he was making a tweet for his India mate and domestic stalwart Jaydev, asking whether he would be interested in playing for the defending champions Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK)?
