Watch: Shimron Hetmyer walks back after dismissal, but is called back because it’s a no-ball
A comical series of events saw Shimron Hetmyer walk back and nearly reach the dressing room after Varun Chakravarthy dismissed him, but after the no-ball siren buzzed around, the West Indian southpaw was called back. The incident took place in the game between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, who fighting it out in Qualifier 2 for a place in the final, to play Chennai Super Kings.
Delhi Capitals’ scoring rate was well under par and they needed a shift in momentum. This is when Shimron Hetmyer took a chance, went after Varun Chakravarthy. He heaved it towards cow-corner, and Shubman Gill at long-on covered a lot of ground to take a stunning catch. The West Indian was gutted and walked past the ropes.
Anil Chaudhary, the fourth umpire for this game, was downstairs and asked Hetmyer to wait until the verdict is out. Varun Chakravarthy was on the edge as far as the leg no-ball was concerned, but in that touch-and-go situation, the third umpire deemed it a no-ball and Hetmyer was called back. The 24-year-old was visibly elated with that stroke of luck and jumped in the air out of joy upon reaching the middle once again.

Shimron Hetmyer hit a couple of sixes in the next over against Lockie Ferguson, and in this low-scoring encounter, his 10-ball 17 might turn out to be a pivotal contribution. However, his fortune lasted for not so long, as he was dismissed in the 19th over while trying to sneak a single out of nowhere. His partner Shreyas Iyer tried to bring the aggressor back on strike, but Venkatesh Iyer inside the circle did not have a lot of trouble in throwing and running out Hetmyer.

Delhi Capitals finished with 135 runs in 20 overs, and a crucial 30-run contribution from Shreyas Iyer got them past the 130s. He hit two boundaries in the innings, both of which came in the final over. He finished the innings with a six down the ground, giving his side some momentum.
