[The Decision Review System (DRS) was introduced in cricket to avoid howlers from umpires. It has helped the teams in getting a lot of wrong decisions from the on-field umpires reversed but at times, some of the worst reviews have also been taken just for the sake of it. One such instance happened during the low-scoring thriller between RCB and KKR in the ongoing season of IPL.
It was the 16th over of KKR’s innings when they had already lost nine wickets. Having bowled decently until then, Harshal Patel finished the over with a yorker which Varun Chakravarthy successfully kept out with a front-foot defence.
However, Harshal felt the ball hit the boot first and appealed for lbw which the on-field umpire duly turned down. There was not much interest from any of the other RCB players either but surprisingly, skipper Faf du Plessis decided to go for the review.
And when the replays were seen, it turned out to be one of the worst reviews ever taken. The ball had the middle of the bat and Chakaravarthy’s shoes were nowhere close to it. It was absolute comedy in the middle after the replay was shown on the big screen and it was the case of taking the review just for the sake of it.
RCB had two reviews left in their kitty and just to try their luck, they wasted one which turned out to be one of the worst ever.

As far as the match is concerned, after opting to bowl first, RCB managed to bundle out KKR for just 128 runs in the 19th over. Wanindu Hasaranga was the star with the ball for them returning with the figures of 4/20 while Akash Deep also scalped three wickets.
In reply, RCB also crumbled in the chase but crucial contributions from David Willey, Sherfane Rutherford and Shahbaz Ahmed helped them get close to the win. There was a collapse at the fag end of the innings but they had a calm head in Dinesh Karthik in the middle who was well supported by Harshal Patel as the duo sealed RCB’s first win of the season.
