Umran Malik set up Shreyas Iyer with a barrage of bouncers before unleashing the yorker; got Dale Steyn jumping on his seat.

South African great Dale Steyn was seen excited for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) uncapped Indian pacer Umran Malik after his tremendous yorker that proved too good for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2022 on Friday (April 15).

In heartening scenes, the legendary speedster was seen joyous in the moment even more than Malik himself, reflecting a genuine sense of happiness and love for the bowler he is grooming under his supervision with SRH.

It was perhaps the nature of the dismissal that brought out the brightest of smiles and celebrations from the former Proteas pacer. Dale Steyn jumped on his seat the moment a quick Malik yorker thumped onto the base of the stumps against Iyer and sent the KKR skipper back to the pavillion.

The top quality yorker delivered by Malik at the end of the 10th over in the SRH bowling effort smashed the base of middle and off stump against Iyer, who was opening up to create room through the off-side.

Instantly, the cameras rolled to the SRH dugout where the great Steyn was seen beaming with excitement and sharing the moment with fellow legend and coaching staff member Muttiah Muralitharan.

More than the wicket ball, it is the set-up and its fruition that would've gotten Dale Steyn going in the moment. Malik did Iyer with a barrage of short balls leading into the dismissal, with the field predominantly set behind square on both sides. That, psychologically played into Iyer's mind and pushed him on the backfoot.

Anticipating another short ball, Iyer got done in by a surprise yorker. The length and pertinently the pace that Malik generated gave Iyer no time to make any late adjustments. The batter attempted a shot through the off-side but he missed it completely and got out.

A firm believer in pace, and certainly the promise and the raw talent of Malik, Dale Steyn had earlier earmarked the cricketer for a great future in the game.

In a Q & A session done with his fans over Twitter on Thursday (April 14), when asked to pinpoint who he thinks will be the best fast-bowler in the next 5 years, Steyn named Malik and South Africa's rising young quick Marco Jansen.

"Umran Malik will feature heavily in the future, as will Marco Jansen from an all-rounder point of view. (Sunrisers specific)," he said.

Steyn also gave a peek into his training sessions with Malik in SRH camp, explaining what his advice to the J&K pacer is.

"Never lose pace," he said. "Anyone can bowl 130/135. But yes, some variety in his skills will take him a long way forward."
