[WATCH]Doctor Babar Azam Comes to the Rescue, Fixes Shaheen Afridi’s Thumb in Australia vs Pakistan Third ODI

Shaheen Afridi injured his thumb while attempting to stop a throw from deep mid-wicket during the 26th over of the third ODI against Australia.

Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi suffered a painful injury to his left thumb during the third and final ODI against Australia in Perth on Sunday. His teammate, Babar Azam, quickly came to his aid, attempting to relieve the pain by pulling his thumb to help.

The injury took place in the 26th over when Sean Abbott hit a shot to deep mid-wicket off Shaheen’s delivery. As the fielder threw the ball in at a hard and flat angle, Shaheen, positioned at the non-striker’s end, tried to stop the ball.

Unfortunately, the throw grazed his left thumb, causing immediate pain. Shaheen flicked his hand in discomfort, and Babar Azam stepped in to assist, pulling on Shaheen’s thumb in an attempt to reduce the pain.

Commentators feared a dislocation, but Babar continued to apply pressure until the physio arrived. After a quick assessment, the physio ruled out a dislocation and treated the injury with a magic spray. Though still in some discomfort, Shaheen returned to bowling after the treatment, much to the relief of his fans.

Pakistan on the verge of their first series victory in Australia since 2002

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s pacers dominated the Australian batting line-up, restricting the hosts to just 140 runs after Pakistan opted to bowl first. Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah both claimed three wickets, while Haris Rauf took two and Mohammad Hasnain added one. Sean Abbott was the top scorer for Australia, and Cooper Connolly retired out during the innings.

At the time of writing this report, Pakistan are 27-0. If Pakistan successfully chases down the target of 141 runs, they will win the series 2-1, marking their first series victory in Australia since 2002.

As a passionate cricket fan I have been watching the game for over 20 years, and it has been a constant part of my life for as long as I can remember. From childhood, I enjoyed following matches and players, and over time that passion only grew stronger. What began as admiration for the sport slowly turned into a deeper connection, where I found joy in expressing my thoughts through writing. For me, writing about cricket feels natural. It doesn’t feel like work, but rather a reflection of the love I have for the game that has always been close to my heart.
