He is an express pacer who can bowl hard lengths and generate additional bounce off the deck.
A released Mumbai Indians (MI) star celebrated aggressively after dismissing Hardik Pandya on the fifth delivery of the 17th over during the first T20I between South Africa and India in Durban. It was a smart ploy by him and bowled exceptionally well amidst the carnage.
Gerald Coetzee bowled a slower delivery outside the off-stump line, to which Hardik tried slicing over the deep backward point region but couldn’t get his timing correct. The fielder was set for this shot, and the ball flew straight into the hands of Marco Jansen to cut Hardik’s innings short.
After taking the wicket, Coetzee was pumped up, for his plan worked brilliantly. Like always, he celebrated aggressively by punching his fist in the air and roaring with all his energy.

After getting a big fish, Coetzee was delighted since Hardik can be very dangerous in the death overs and could have hit a few quick boundaries to take the total far away. It was a timely wicket for South Africa as they made a solid comeback in the back end of the innings after Indian batters wreaked havoc with the bat on a nice batting deck.
The South African speedster was in high demand during the last IPL auction, fetching INR 5 crores from the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI). However, MI released him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, for his performances weren’t convincing enough during the last season, his maiden in the league.
Ahead of a fresh auction, Coetzee has registered his name again and should get a significant amount. He is an express pacer who can bowl hard lengths and generate additional bounce off the deck.
Further, his slower ones have also started to come out well, and Coetzee has been using them precisely. Hence, he is a terrific option for the middle and death overs in T20s.
He will be a long-term investment for any side and can bat a bit in the lower order. Such players are rare, so teams might go hard after him, and Coetzee can start a bidding war.
