Not for the first time, Steve Smith‘s unorthodox batting style and unique on-field antics became a thing to mimic for a fellow cricketer as Mohammad Rizwan was seen trying to copy his ways at the crease.
The effort to correctly mimic the world’s best contemporary Test batter was seen ahead of Day 1 of the series-deciding Test match in Lahore on Monday (March 21).
Rizwan was in conversation with Marnus Labuschagne in the pre-day net session where the Australian batter watched along while the Pakistani cricketer made a funny attempt at mimicking his teammate.
Labuschagne even made a point to correct Mohammad Rizwan’s bat grip and downswing as he tried to his hand at Smith’s inimitable approach.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) posted a clip of the funny incident on their official Twitter handle, with Mohammad Rizwan and Labuschagne seen involved in an interesting discussion to get the mimicry of Smith’s batting style right.
At one point in the clip, Rizwan nearly hit the head of Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali, who was sitting on the turf not far away from the bat. Hasan eventually stood up and saved his head for the batter.

Soon, Labuschagne really got involved and ensured Rizwan does his own ‘Steve Smith’ in an absolutely correct manner, while Sajid Khan also joined them in the act.

Smith’s unorthodox style has been copied multiple times by various other cricketers around the world, as his unique stance and abnormal downswing continues to raise eyebrows and attract funny reactions.
Labuschagne, who is a little more orthodox in his approach to batting, has tried previously to mimic Smith’s dramatics at the crease. But while with Smith it comes out natural, Labuschagne did so deliberately to tell his batting partner not to go for the run and partly to try and get under the bowler’s skin.
Seeing Smith react indifferently after facing the ball has riled up many fast-bowlers and got them reacting. Ace quick Jasprit Bumrah tried to mimic Smith after a delivery during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last winter. Ishant Sharma famously tried the same in the heat of the Bangalore Test from Australia’s 2017 tour of India.
Mohammad Rizwan is now the latest cricketer to try his hand at Smith’s style and ways at the crease.
