In an evil twist of fate, a Nepal cricketer terribly injured his leg just moments after doing the iconic ‘shoe-call’ celebration in the ongoing U19 Asia Cup 2024.
Yuvraj Khatri, who spun the web around Bangladesh U19 with his incredible bowling, had to be eventually piggybacked off the field following the incident as he couldn’t walk further.
Khatri finished the match with figures of 4/23 in the 6 overs that he bowled, although it came in a losing cause as Bangladesh U19 won the contest by 5 wickets. Nevertheless, Khatri’s efforts put pressure on the opposition batters and the Nepal spinner got to his 4-wicket haul with two twin strikes (once in the 20th over and again in the 28th over).
In the 28th over, on the penultimate ball, the Nepal spinner sent Farid Hasan Faysal packing, knocking over the stumps as the batter attempted a paddle sweep. The ball passed the bat and struck the woodwork. The very next delivery saw the spinner take another wicket, claiming two in the over.
Filled with excitement, he sprinted to celebrate and leapt in the air but appeared to twist his ankle during the landing and collapsed to the ground.
He was visibly in agony and unable to walk properly, needing help from a teammate, who carried him off the field. The video of the incident quickly went viral, showing how his joyous celebration turned into a moment of pain.

Earlier, the Nepal U19 National Cricket Team struggled with the bat, being dismissed for a mere 141 runs. None of the players managed to make a significant contribution, with Akaash Tripathi leading the scoring with 43 runs while the remaining batters were unable to surpass the 30-run mark.
Bangladesh chased down the target of 142 runs comfortably in just 29 overs.
