Pakistan were bundled out for 129 in their opening fixture against Bangladesh.
It has been just a couple of days since the Women’s World Cup 2025 started. The tournament is already living up to the hype. After Australia and New Zealand gave the fans a run-scoring fest in the second match of the tournament, the third match is being played by Asian rivals Pakistan and Bangladesh. However, in that fixture, Pakistan batter Nashra Sandhu was dismissed in a unique manner.
Sandhu was dismissed hit-wicket after her bat hit the stumps when she attempted to execute a late cut. To add to that, the 27-year-old has made an appearance in an unwanted, yet unique list. After her dismissal, Sandhu became only the second batter in Women’s World Cup history to be dismissed hit-wicket. The first instance occurred 52 years ago, when Lynette Smith was dismissed in the same manner in a game representing International XI Women.
Sandhu was dismissed for a solitary run in the fixture against Bangladesh. The incident took place in the 35th over on the bowling of Shorna Akter. As a result, Pakistan were bundled out for a mere 129 in their opening fixture of the campaign. They are due to play arch–rivals next, and will hope for a quick turnaround in fortunes.

The Bangladeshis were quite clinical with their bowling approach. They never let their opponents away with easy runs. Opener Omaima Sohail and No.3 batter Sidra Amin were both dismissed for golden ducks and Pakistan were pushed on the backfoot very early in the match. Both the wickets were claimed by pacer Marufa Akter, who was very disciplined in her bowling.
To add to that, the Women in Green got to the 100-run mark only in the 30th over. This proves that they were never able to get off the hook after the initial blows. Moreover, they ended with just 14 boundaries in their entire innings, four of which came in the powerplay. Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana was smart with her bowling changes, after which she also played a steady hand to take her team over the line.
Rabeya Khan and Shorna Akter, who were the fifth and sixth bowling options for Bangladesh bowled with the lowest economy. Pakistan have some serious work to do as far as their batting is concerned. They will have to show better qualities to bounce back after early blows. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals, which hampered their chances of going big.
