WATCH: Umesh Yadav rattles Prithvi Shaw with a bouncer; ball hits helmet and travels to the boundary
Despite a blow to his helmet off a bouncer from Umesh Yadav, Prithvi Shaw managed to add four runs to his team's kitty.
Known for swinging it at high speeds, Umesh Yadav instead got Prithvi Shaw rattled with a stupendous bouncer in the early stages of Sunday (April 10) afternoon's IPL 2022 game in Mumbai. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) speedster got the Delhi Capitals (DC) opener hurried with pace and bounce, and got the ball thumping onto his helmet.
That ball ruffled up Shaw, as Umesh unleashed one of his quickest deliveries in IPL 2022 and bent his back to produce a well-directed bouncer. But in a moment of great misfortune, despite the unerring accuracy on his ball, the experienced pacer ended up conceding a boundary off the batter's helmet.
Prithvi Shaw helmeted the ball on its way to a boundary over the short-third fielder present inside the 30-yard cycle and got his team four more runs despite an obviously failed attempt at pulling a delivery from Umesh.

The incident happened on the penultimate ball of the third over in the DC first-innings. Facing Umesh's short-pitched delivery, Prithvi Shaw went for a pull shot through the on-side. But the batter was rushed by the pace that Umesh generated in the air and off the deck, and ended up missing the ball.

Initially, it looked as if Shaw got a top-edge on the ball before it rocketed off his helmet. But a close-in replay confirmed that it had never contacted either the bat or the glove, and hit the head gear directly to sail over the short-third fielder for another four runs in DC's kitty.

Immediately after the ball was complete, Umesh made it a point to check on Prithvi Shaw, who was in visible pain and discomfort, and was seen holding the part of his helmet with a hand. Joining Umesh were the rest of the close-in KKR fielders and Shaw's opening partner David Warner.
As per the concussion protocols in place, the batter was also instantly checked upon by DC's medical staff personnel, who approved him good enough to resume his innings.
