[WATCH] RCB star copies Rohit Sharma’s iconic celebration while lifting CPL 2024 trophy

His celebratory walk was a striking homage to Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s iconic stride during India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory earlier this year.

A Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star copied Virat Kohli’s iconic walk celebration while lifting the recently-concluded Caribbean Champions League (CPL 2024) Trophy.

After guiding the Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) to their maiden title with a six-wicket victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in the CPL 2024 final, Faf du Plessis, who is also the captain of RCB, celebrated in a manner that immediately went viral.

His celebratory walk was a striking homage to Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s iconic stride during India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory earlier this year.

The moment resonated with fans because Rohit’s confident, slow walk, highlighted by a proud smile and folded arms, had become a defining image of India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup.

By imitating it, du Plessis subtly honoured one of cricket’s modern legends while also making the celebration his own after an unforgettable win.

Saint Lucia Kings wins maiden CPL title

For Saint Lucia Kings, the journey to the championship had been long and challenging. Under the leadership of former T20 World Cup-winning captain Daren Sammy, the Kings transformed from consistent underdogs to serious title contenders.

Their persistence finally paid off with a commanding victory over GAW in the final.

While SLK’s bowling attack set the stage, with young Afghan spinner Noor Ahmed taking 3 wickets for just 19 runs, the team found themselves struggling at 51 for 4 in their pursuit of 139. However, Roston Chase (39 off 22) and Aaron Jones (48 off 31) mounted a brilliant comeback, securing the maiden CPL title for SLK with 11 balls to spare.

Speaking after the win, Faf du Plessis said, “I am extremely proud of the team for showing grit throughout the tournament and getting the job done. There was excitement at the start of the competition in St Lucia about this gonna be the season. First CPL trophy and it is a great achievement.”
