The bowlers often bowl a front-foot no-ball, but since Riyan overdid his experiment, it was deemed a backfoot no-ball.
Riyan Parag tried bowling a flatter length delivery with a very slingy action from behind the stumps by going wide of the crease. It was a weird ball, and Riyan probably attempted something unique when it wasn’t really required.
But even if he wanted to test it, he should have kept the rules of the game in mind because it was a no-ball. The umpires checked the replays and found that Riyan’s back foot was outside the return crease.

According to MCC’s law regarding fair delivery (the feet) – “For a delivery to be fair in respect of the feet, in the delivery stride,
21.5.1 the bowler’s back foot must land within and not touching the return crease appertaining to his/her stated mode of delivery.
21.5.2 For a delivery to be fair in respect of the feet, in the delivery stride, the bowler’s front foot must land with some part of the foot, whether grounded or raised
– on the same side of the imaginary line joining the two middle stumps as the return crease described in 21.5.1, and
– behind the popping crease.
If the bowler’s end umpire is not satisfied that all of these three conditions have been met, he/she shall call and signal No ball.”
As visible, Riyan’s back foot was not within the return crease and was on the grass while releasing the ball. Hence, it was a backfoot no-ball, as mentioned in the rules.
Talking about the game, India imposed themselves on Bangladesh, who again churned out a dull performance. They started well with the ball, taking three wickets in the powerplay, but a big partnership between Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh took India’s total to a massive 221/9 in 20 overs.
While bowling, all Indian bowlers were brilliant with the ball and put the opponent under the pump with their penetrative bowling. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Varun Chakravarthy got two wickets each, whereas all other bowlers also bowled well.
Riyan Parag also delivered two overs and conceded 16 runs while getting a wicket. The bowlers kept Bangladesh’s total to 135/9, giving the team a big 86-run win.
They have won the series with a match to go. The next and final game of the series will take place on Saturday (October 12) in Hyderabad.
