Sanju Samson took only 40 balls to complete the ton, becoming the second-fastest Indian batter to amass a century.
Sanju Samson hit five consecutive sixes off Rishad Hossain in the tenth over of the first innings during the third T20I between India and Bangladesh. It was a complete carnage from Samson, who was unstoppable during this match.
The first ball was right into the slot, and Samson targetted down the ground over the bowler’s head by clearing his legs for his first maximum. The second one was again very full and nicely tossed, and Samson again cleared his front leg and thwacked it over the mid-off region for the second consecutive six.
The bowler then flattered his trajectory, but the length was again in the slot, asking to hit, and Sanju didn’t miss. He whacked it over the long-on region for the third consecutive six, again targeting the ‘V’ down the ground.
For his fourth six, Samson again hit over the long-on region, for the length was again fuller and in the slot. For the last ball, Hossain pulled his lengths back, but Samson went off the backfoot and bludgeoned it over the deep midwicket region for another maximum, the fifth in a row to take 30 runs from the over.
Sanju Samson was absolutely unstoppable in the first innings and started playing his shots right from the first ball. He played his shots all around the ground, leaving fans and viewers mesmerised all around the world.
Unlike the previous two games, where he got starts but couldn’t convert them into substantial scores, Samson continued batting and went on to notch a magnificent ton, his first in T20Is. He took only 40 balls to complete the ton, becoming the second-fastest Indian batter to amass a century.
He broke Suryakumar Yadav’s record, who took only 45 balls to get to his ton, while Rohit Sharma still holds the fastest for an Indian, taking only 35 balls. Among full-member sides, Samson stands fourth in the list of the fastest centurions in T20Is.
He eventually got out after making 111 runs in 47 deliveries, including 11 boundaries and eight maximums, at a strike rate of 236.17. It was an innings laced with some gorgeous shots, and Samson will hope this is the first of many.
