Sarfaraz Khan Appeals Hilariously After the Batter Double-Hits the Ball During the PM-XI and India Match [WATCH]

Sarfaraz Khan appealed ferociously after Hanno Jacobs hit the ball twice on the fifth delivery of the 29th over during the game between Prime Minister’s XI and India. It was a hilarious moment, but Sarfaraz was checking whether the batter hit it deliberately to score runs.

Washington Sundar bowled a length delivery, to which Jacobs defended it with a straight bat. However, the ball was coming on the stumps, so the batter decided to put it away with another strike with the willow, which tempted Sarfaraz to appeal. But only he was appealing, and the on-field umpires ignored his call.

According to MCC’s Law 34.1.1, “The striker is out Hit the ball twice if, while the ball is in play, it strikes any part of his/her person or is struck by his/her bat and, before the ball has been touched by a fielder, the striker wilfully strikes it again with his/her bat or person, other than a hand not holding the bat, except for the sole purpose of guarding his/her wicket.”

In this case, Jacobs double-hitting the bat wasn’t deliberate, and the only attempt to strike it twice was to save his wicket. There was no intention of scoring runs, so the appeal was baseless and was a not-out.

India defeated the Prime Minister’s XI by six wickets

India got a perfect match practice by playing against the Prime Minister’s XI in a 50-over contest by pink ball. Initially, the contest was for two days, but the rain reduced the contest to 46 overs per side, and India opted to field first after winning the toss.

Prime Minister’s XI were bundled on a mere 240 in 43.2 overs, with Harshit Rana starring with the ball for India. He took four wickets, while Akash Deep dismissed two batters to restrict the Prime Minister’s XI.

Later, Shubman Gill compiled a well-made 50, while Yashasvi Jaiswal made 45. Nitish Kumar Reddy (42) and Washington Sundar (42) also played fine hands, taking India through.

While Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah didn’t take part in the practice, most other players got into the groove. The second Test starts on Friday (December 6) in Adelaide.
