Watch: Moeen Ali run-out by spectacular effort from RCB debutant Suyash Prabhudessai

Suyash Prabhudessai made instant impact for RCB debut against CSK in IPL 2022 with a run-out of Moeen Ali.

Making his debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Suyash Prabhudessai made instant impression against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2022 on Tuesday (April 12). The middle-order batter from Goa showcased his fielding brilliance and ran out CSK’s key player Moeen Ali in a critical moment in the game.

Placed at point, the 24-year-old made Moeen pay heavily for his misjudged run, as the CSK left-hander kept walking towards the other end after a cut short, not realising that Prabhudessai has got the ball covered. It was a suicidal run at the end.

Perhaps it is the force at which the batter had played his cut short that made him certain of sneaking through the in-field and secure a boundary. But then, in a great piece of athleticism and agility, Suyash Prabhudessai got around the ball and sent out a bullet-like throw to the keeper’s end with Moeen well short of his ground.

The run-out was on display on the fourth ball of the seventh over in CSK’s first-innings at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Facing RCB’s part-time spin option Glenn Maxwell, Moeen found a short ball in his radar and went for the cut short. The connection looked fine and it seemed the batter will find the boundary.

However, an impressive dive from Suyash Prabhudessai helped him cover the ball on the edge of the circle. The fielder instantly threw the ball at the keeper’s end, where veteran glover Dinesh Karthik helped complete the formalities.

Moeen would’ve been livid to see what had unfolded, as he not just found the fielder when it looked like a near-certain boundary but also committed a little too early in his attempt to get at the other end.

What wouldn’t have helped the batter’s attempted run is his partner Robin Uthappa’s own attempt to sneak in. Uthappa ran halfway down the pitch before averting from the run.

But by then, the train had left and Moeen had been lulled into going for the run that wasn’t there, thanks largely to Suyash Prabhudessai.
