Watch: RCB newbie Suyash Prabhudessai showing his 360-degree game in domestic cricket

RCB's latest recruit from Goa Suyash Prabhudessai has been an explosive player in domestic T20 cricket.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday (April 12) handed a debut cap to Suyash Pradhudessai for their league-stage encounter against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2022.

The RCB newbie is a Goa-based middle-order batter known for playing some explosive innings in domestic white-ball cricket and hitting the ball regularly to the fence.

Heading into his IPL debut, the 24-year-old right-hand batter boasts of an impressive record in domestic T20 cricket. Suyash Pradhudessai has made his runs at an eye-catching strike-rate of 148.16 while averaging a pretty decent 31.64 in his 22 T20 matches.

When RCB’s latest buy Suyash Pradhudessai smashed it to all corners in SMAT

The RCB think-tank bought Pradhudessai for a sum of INR 30 lakhs at the mega auction in Bangalore this February in a great vote of encouragement for the youngster. This, despite him not taking the 2021-22 domestic season by storm.

The batter did not perform at his best in the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20, averaging less than 30 in either of the two, although his strike in the SMAT 2022 was above 140. But the RCB management and scouting team saw enough potential in the player to raise their paddle at the bidding war.

And one of the innings where Suyash Pradhudessai showcased his talent and promise the most arrived a season earlier in the SMAT. Playing for Goa in the tournament’s 2020-21 edition in January last year, the right-hand batter smashed the Madhya Pradesh attack to all corners.

In an Elite Group D encounter played in Indore, Pradhudessai went hammer and tongs for his 22-ball 48 not out. The batter struck 3 fours and 4 maximums in his innings, giving Goa a lift and a glimmer of hope in their difficult run-chase versus MP.

Walking in at No.7 with Goa reeling at 102/5 in their quest to chase down the gigantic 215-run target, Suyash Pradhudessai put the pressure back on the favourites MP and helped his team reach 208 by the end of the 20th over, missing out on an unlikely win by just 7 runs.
