WATCH: Ajinkya Rahane slaps Adam Milne for a disdainful six over backward square | IPL 2022

Ajinkya Rahane made a name for himself while playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Thereafter, he played for the defunct Rising Pune Supergiant when the Royals served a two-year suspension period. After two seasons in 2018 and 2019 at the Royals, Rahane moved to the Delhi Capitals (DC), captained by the swashbuckling Rishabh Pant.

Rahane didn’t get to play a whole lot for the Capitals after which the franchise released him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction on February 12 and 13. In the auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) roped him in at a base price of INR 1 crore. In KKR’s very first game on Saturday, March 26, Rahane got a chance to play against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

He opened the batting along with Venkatesh Iyer after the Super Kings asked KKR to chase down 132 in 20 overs. Rahane started his knock with two glorious fours off Tushar Deshpande and Adam Milne. But the veteran stole the limelight after he smacked Milne for a colossal six over the backward square leg region.

Milne churned out a short delivery to ruffle Rahane, but the latter was equal to the task. Rahane rocked back onto the backfoot and pulled the ball with absolute disdain. Rahane found the middle of the bat as the ball sailed into the stands.

Rahane has been under quite a significant amount of pressure in recent times. He was dropped from the Indian Test team for the two-match series against Sri Lanka. Even in the IPL, the right-hander didn’t have the best of times over the last three seasons. He was often criticized for not being able to step on the gas in the hour of need.

In the mega auction, Rahane registered himself at a base price of INR 1 crore. The Knights started the bidding, but no other franchise showed interest in him. Amidst a rough phase in his career, the 33-year-old will now be looking to get some decent knocks under his belt and stake his claim back into the national team.
