South Africa's rising young star Dewald Brevis made an impressive start to his IPL career on Wednesday (April 6) night for the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Playing for the five-time winners against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Pune, the 18-year-old batter produced an attractive knock of 29 off 19 balls.

Even in his short stay at the crease, Brevis showed why there has been a great sense of anticipation around his batting and inclusion in the IPL over the past few months. The young right-hander played some exceptional strokes whilst he was there and gave a fine example of his talent and promise.

One of these strokes was an amazing no-look six hit through the on-side against KKR’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, whom Dewald Brevis smashed through the mid-wicket region with all the style and grace. Interestingly, it was exactly the shot the batter had been preparing to play in the build-up to his IPL debut for MI.

Preparations come to fruition as Dewald Brevis hits no-look six versus KKR.

In a clip shared over MI’s official Twitter handle on March 26, Dewald Brevis was practising his big hits, featuring the exciting no-look six through the on-side.

10 days later, the youngster did exactly that on his IPL debut versus KKR, hitting their mystery spinner Chakravarthy for an eye-catching maximum at Pune’s MCA Stadium.

The six was seen in full glory on the first ball of the seventh over in MI’s first-innings. Facing Chakravarthy for the very first time in his career, the batter looked unfazed by his mystery and hammered him over the ropes in the mid-wicket region.

Sent with a clear message to attack the bowling, Dewald Brevis did his aggressor’s duties to good effect and promised so much more when he got out under edging a delivery to the keeper late in Chakravarthy’s over.

Brevis had been bought by MI for a notable sum of INR 3 crores despite registering his name at the mega auction with a base amount of 20 lakhs.

The player from South Africa was always an exciting pick heading into the bidding war in Bangalore after emerging as one of the brightest young talents at the U-19 World Cup in the Caribbean this January.

The 18-year-old finished as the top run-getter of the tournament with a whopping 506 runs from his six innings at an average of 84.33 and strike-rate of 90.19.
