WATCH: Pakistan women spinner bowls sharp Warne-esque leg-break to castle batter
After having clean swept the three-match T20I series last week, Pakistan Women have made a strong start to the home ODI series against Sri Lanka Women at the Southend Club Cricket Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday, June 1.
Sri Lanka were given an early jolt in their innings, with an alert Fatima Sana catching opener Hasini Perera in the fourth over of the innings. Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu (25) and Hansima Karunaratne added 39 for the second wicket, before both falling in quick succession.
A 50-run stand between Prasadani Weerakkody and wicketkeeper Nilakshi de Silva followed, before another triple-strike within four balls reduced the visitors from 96/3 to 96/6.
De Silva fell to left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal, while Ghulam Fatima, who had earlier accounted for Karunaratne, had Weerakkody stumped on the first ball of the 31st over. The next ball was a classical leg-break, spinning in significantly to send back all-rounder Oshadi Ranasinghe for a first-ball duck.
Fatima delivered one from round the wicket, giving it enough loop and flight to pitch it on a length well outside the off-stump. The ball turned sharply, spinning inwards, to bamboozle the indecisive left-hander to take the off bail.

Kavisha Dilhari’s unbeaten 50-ball 49, which included five fours and a six, helped Sri Lanka recover somewhat in an effort of 169 all-out with 2.1 overs unused. Ghulam Fatima returned 10-2-21-4, while Fatima Sana and Iqbal bagged two wickets each.
Pakistan were ___ from __ overs at the time of writing, with Sidra Ameen and Bismah Maroof at the crease, after Muneeba Ali’s early dismissal for 14.
The series kickstarts the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25, with the matches deciding the qualification for the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. No India-Pakistan series has been allotted in the cycle.
