WATCH: Janneman Malan scoops up perfect forward diving catch to dismiss Mehidy Hasan Miraz | SA vs BAN
Janneman Malan has had an excellent ODI career with the bat, but the fact that he’s a brilliant fielder as well can’t be denied by any means. On Sunday, March 20, he took a sharp catch to dismiss Mehidy Hasan Miraz during South Africa’s second ODI against Bangladesh at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Kagiso Rabada bowled a good length delivery and Miraz tried to play a cover drive on the up. But the batter couldn’t time the ball properly and hit it towards Malan. The fielder didn’t have it easy as the leather was dipping on him. Hence, Malan had to pull out a dive on his left side and he completed the catch with relative ease.
Miraz was batting on 38 at the point in time and with four overs left, he could have done a lot of damage. The dismissal also gave Rabada a well-deserved five-wicket haul in the Pink ODI. It was the eighth wicket to go down for the Tigers at the score of 181.

After opting to bat first, Bangladesh found themselves in all sorts of strife. The lost half their side at the score of 34 in 12.4 overs. Rabada picked up the three crucial wickets of Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, who won the Player of the Match award in the Centurion ODI, and Yasir Ali Chowdhury, who scored a half-century at the SuperSport Park.
Later, Rabada also got rid of a well-set Afif Hossain Dhrubo, who made 72 runs off 107 balls with the help of nine fours when the Tigers were in trouble. Mehidy’s wicket gave Rabada the fifer in Johannesburg. Rabada finished with stupendous bowling figures of 10-0-39-5.
Lungi Ngidi, Wayne Parnell, Tabraiz Shamsi and Rassie van der Dussen picked up one wicket apiece. Skipper Temba Bavuma also rolled his arms over for 6.1 overs without much success.
As far as the Tigers are concerned, after the stern resistance from Dhrubo and Miraz, they got themselves up to 194 for nine in 50 overs. Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim also perished cheaply.
