Australia’s rising batting sensation Marnus Labuschagne was done in by an excellent throw from Pakistan’s Sajid Khan in an eye-catching run-out on Day 1 of the second Test in Karachi.

Labuschagne seems to have timed his attempted run to perfection until he was sent back by a magnificent piece of fielding from Khan, who disturbed the stumps at the bowling end with a pinpoint accurate throw.

What looked like a straightforward first run of the innings for the Aussie batter got turned into an unfortunate dismissal on a duck for him at the National Stadium. Marnus Labuschagne had to take the long walk back with no run next to his name.

The dismissal came to light on the final ball of the 21st over in the Australian first-innings on Day 1. Having played out eight previous dot balls at the crease, Marnus Labuschagne was itching to get off the mark. That sense of desperation, however, was largely tamed by the right-hander.

Even on the wicket ball, Labuschagne seems to have judged the run correctly, as he tapped a straight ball from left-arm spinner Nauman Ali to the right of the mid-off fielder Khan. But Khan quickly made his ground, took a clean grab and unleashed a superb direct throw that found Labushagne just short of the crease at the other end.

The wicket triggered huge celebrations in the Pakistani camp, where Khan was hailed by his teammates. But the scene was of despair for the Australians and their in-form No.3 Marnus Labuschagne, who missed out on a score on what was a reasonably flat deck in Karachi.

Despite his run-out and failure in the first-innings, Labuschagne boasts of a proud record under his belt. The 27-year-old is averaging a fantastic 57.75 after his 24 Tests for Australia with his tally of 2,310 runs featuring 6 hundreds and 13 half-centuries.
