Jack Edwards took a stupendous catch to dismiss Josh Philippe during the Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and Western Australia. WA scored 356 for six in their first innings on the back of Cameron Bancroft’s 117-run knock, laced with nine fours. Philippe, who batted at No.5, looked good for a big score as he was batting on 32 with one four.
But a brilliant catch from Edwards led to his downfall. Edwards bowled a gentle half-volley and Philippe tried to flick the ball on the on-side. But the batter couldn’t time the ball properly, and rather got a leading edge after which Edwards dived forward to complete the catch.
After he caught hold of the ball, Edwards also did a somersault in his run-up itself. Edwards and Phillipe must be knowing each other well as they play for the Sydney Sixers, led by Moises Henriques, in the Big Bash League (BBL).
Philippe made his international debut last year against New Zealand in Christchurch and has already played ODI and T20I cricket. He also played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), then led by Virat Kohli, in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Edwards was the pick of the bowlers for NSW as he finished with impressive figures of 21-2-58-3. Apart from Philippe, he also got rid of Sam Whiteman and WA skipper Shaun Marsh. Edwards failed with the bat in the first innings after Matthew Kelly got him out for one. NSW were bowled out for 208 and they conceded a massive 148-run lead to their opponents.
Thereafter, WA declared their second innings on 75 for the loss of four wickets. Edwards, who got a three-fer in the first innings, couldn’t get a wicket in the nine overs he bowled in the second innings. The match at the Bankstown Oval in Sydney ended in a draw.
NSW are next set to face South Australia at the Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide, South Australia from Wednesday, March 23. Western Australia, on the other hand, will be up against Victoria at the iconic W.A.C.A Ground in Perth.
