WATCH: Rohit Sharma kicks ball in anger after Bhuvneshwar Kumar drops a catch

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma wasn’t particularly happy with Bhuvneshwar Kumar after the latter dropped a catch during the second T20I against the West Indies on Friday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. In the 16th over of the Caribbean team’s innings, Kumar grassed a simple catch, giving Rovman Powell a much-needed lifeline.

Bhuvneshwar dished out a short ball and Powell tried to bring out the pull shot. However, the batter didn’t find proper timing and the ball went straight up in the air. But Bhuvneshwar couldn’t catch hold of the leather. In anger, the 34-year-old Rohit kicked the ball away and Powell and the West Indies stole an extra run.

Sharma wanted Rishabh Pant to go for the catch since the latter had the wicketkeeping gloves with him. The missed chance almost cost India the game as Powell went on to stay unbeaten on 68 runs off 36 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes.

He was also involved in a 100-run stand with Nicholas Pooran for the third wicket off 60 balls. The left-handed Pooran lent him the apt support, scoring 62 runs off 41 balls with five fours and three sixes.

India went on to win the game by eight runs and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Sharma also notched his fifth win on the trot after taking over from Virat Kohli as India’s full-time T20 skipper.

Earlier, following India’s win in the first T20I, Rohit garnered praises from his fellow Mumbai Indians (MI) teammate Suryakumar Yadav. The latter lauded the veteran for batting with relative ease under pressure in the powerplay.

“What to say? The entire world is seeing his batting. He is a class player. He played the way he has been playing for India all these years. He is not doing anything different,” Suryakumar was quoted as saying.

“When he is batting in the powerplay, when he feels he is in good touch, he is capitalizing on it. He is doing it wonderfully, leading from the front,” he added.
