Islamabad United wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan has quickly developed a reputation of a big hitter in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The big-built young striker gives the ball a mighty hoick and can blast the opposition attack on his day.
Son of former Pakistan cricketer Moin Khan, from time to time, Azam has kept entertaining the fans with his brute powerhitting skills in the PSL 2022. The United star has played 10 matches this season, smashing his 256 runs at a strike-rate of 141.43.
He has made two half-centuries, with the best being his 85 off 45 deliveries in a league stage encounter against Peshawar Zalmi.
Runs on the field have given birth to an amusing moniker for Azam Khan, whose closest teammates seem to refer to him as ‘Hulk’ for his presence on the field and the power behind his mighty sixes.

An incident that again brought to light the ‘Hulk’ reference was on show during the United-Zalmi Eliminator on Thursday (February 24).
Chasing a target of 167 in the knock-out fixture, United skipper Shadab Khan, who just saw the departure of well-set opener Alex Hales, looked towards his team’s dressing room and made it clear he wanted Azam Khan to join him at the crease.

With United placed well at 111/3 to overhaul Zalmi’s 169/5, Shadab wanted them to keep the opponents under pressure by maintaining a healthy run rate. Consequently, he asked for Azam to walk in and give him company.
As it turned out, the wicketkeeper-batter didn’t disappoint his skipper and scored a crucial 28 off 22 deliveries, including a four and two sixes, to push United towards the winning post.
Azam Khan played a role in ensuring United make the cut for the second Eliminator of the tournament against Lahore Qalandars on Friday (February 25).
