WATCH: Shaheen Afridi smashes 23 in the final over to force Super Over | PSL 2022

Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi played a blinder to turn what seemed like a dead game into a thrilling tie and Super Over in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2022) on Monday night. His team, Lahore Qalandars, seemed down and out of the run chase of 159 when they were reduced to 94/6.

Shaheen walked in at No.8 and started playing his shots, but with 24 runs still needed in the final over to win, the game seemed done and dusted.

Mohammad Umar bowled the final over which began with a wide and was followed by an edged four and a top edge for six. With the equation reduced to 13 required off 4 balls, Shaheen Afridi smashed another six to kick the stadium awake and Peshawar Zalmi began to panic.

A couple of dot balls brought the game back in Peshawar’s favour. Lahore needed seven off one ball to win and Shaheen Afridi smoked a six over mid-wicket in crazy scenes at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The game had been tied and Lahore, out of nowhere, had dragged the match into the Super Over.

Things went awry in the Super Over for Lahore Qalandars and Shaheen. A brilliant Wahab Riaz over saw Lahore take just five runs in the Super Over. Peshawar then sealed the game with the bat as Shoaib Malik smashed Shaheen for back-to-back fours off the first two balls of their innings.

In the post-match presentation ceremony, Shaheen talked of him working on his batting. His 39 off 20 balls had created a storm on Monday night and nearly helped his side pull off a heist.

” [I] have been practicing my batting in the nets to ensure that I can contribute to the team with the bat if needed. We will try to improve more if possible. Talking about the match, Peshawar played really well but we weren’t good enough on the field. If we had taken our catches, we could have won the game. Hopefully, we can do well in the playoffs,” Shaheen said.
