New Zealand cricketer Tim Seifert took an excellent catch on debut for Delhi Capitals (DC) during Sunday’s (March 27) IPL 2022 encounter against Mumbai Indians (MI).

Seifert’s diving catch in the 30-yard circle earned DC another crucial breakthrough for the game as they sent the ever-dangerous Kieron Pollard back to the pavillion.

Placed in the short mid-wicket region, the Kiwi player made a valiant jump to his left and took a clean grab even as Pollard seemed to have timed the ball well in an attempted boundary through the on-side.

When the MI powerhitter would’ve felt secured of another four runs in his kitty, he lost his wicket to a piece of absolute brilliance from Tim Seifert.

The catch was seen in its full glory on the fifth ball of the 16th over in the MI first-innings at the Brabourne Stadium. Facing wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav, Pollard received a short ball that he duly dispatched through the on-side. However, to rain on his parade, Tim Seifert made an eye-catching dive and got him out caught with both his legs in the air.

A designated powerhitter, Pollard was only getting into his innings at the time and eyeing momentum towards the death-overs. His eyes lit up seeing a rare short ball from Kuldeep and he hit the ball through the mid-wicket region, only to see a certain New Zealander pull off a magnificent catch.

An earnest cricketer from New Zealand, Tim Seifert was bought by DC at the IPL 2022 mega auction in Bangalore in February for a sum of INR 50 lakhs.

Seifert got his opportunity against MI as DC looked to cover up for the absence of their incumbent overseas opening batter David Warner, who will be available for selection only from April 6.

The 27-year-old right-hand batter has been a regular T20I player for New Zealand, scoring 753 runs from his 40 games in the shortest format for his country at a strike-rate of 129.82.

Seifert will be hoping to make his limited opportunities count before Warner returns to hold a spot at the top of the order.
