Former Australia head coach Justin Langer once played a prank of Marnus Labuschagne on April Fool’s Day and the video clip was shown from ‘The Test’, a documentary series on the Australian cricket team, released on Amazon Prime back on March 2020.

Langer, who recently stepped down as their head coach after serving them for almost four years, played the prank on Labuschagne along with Tim Paine and the other members of the team. Labuschagne, who’s born in South Africa, named Jacques Kallis when asked about his cricket idol.

Thereafter, Langer pretended that he was not happy with Labuschagne’s answer. After Langer’s words, the right-handed batter seemed a little befuddled.

“You have to be very careful. When you have got your Australian stuff on and you talk about Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers and all that stuff… you have got to be careful. Otherwise, boys aren’t going to be took pumped about it,” Langer said.

Being taken aback by Langer’s comments, Labuschagne enquired, “All right, that wasn’t my intention. So, what should I do the next time I am asked such questions?”

Replying to Marnus’ query, Langer said. “Just tell them Steve Smith was your idol growing up. Because it (his answer) is going global so you got to be careful.”

Thereafter, Langer and the rest of the Australian mates wished Labuschagne in April Fool’s Day on camera. Langer said, “Hey Marn, happy April Fool’s Day son.”

A lot has changed since the hilarious moment between the Aussie teammates. Paine isn’t the skipper of the Test team anymore after he stepped down following his ‘sexting scandal’ with a former colleague. Pat Cummins recently led Australia in the Ashes that the hosts won 0-4.

Paine also took an indefinite break from cricket after the incident that also prompted him to step down as the Test captain. Labuschagne, in the meantime, has become the fulcrum of the Australian Test middle order, having piled on runs at will.

Labuschagne recently scored his maiden Ashes Test ton. In 23 Tests, the right-hander has scored 2220 runs at an average of 56.92 with six tons and 12 half-centuries to show for his efforts. He has also been a part of Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions.
