Yashasvi Jaiswal sets the tone with a massive six off Tim Southee off the second ball of the innings [WATCH]

Jaiswal becomes the first Indian batter to hit 30 sixes in a single calendar year

As India begins their chase of 359 in the second Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal sets the tone by smashing a massive six off Tim Southee on the second ball of the innings.

India and Yashasvi Jaiswal showed their attacking approach from the second ball of the innings. Southee bowled a simple length ball on the stumps, and Jaiswal moved across and smashed it over deep square leg for a big six.

That six made Jaiswal the first Indian batter to hit 30 sixes in a single calendar year. He didn’t stop there, smashing a four on the very next ball, sending a clear message to the New Zealand bowlers.

India are 81-1 at the end of the 1st session

New Zealand started the third day at 198/5, with a lead of 303. India then bowled very well in the morning session, where they quickly dismissed the remaining five New Zealand batters. The visitors were bowled out for 255, and India needs 359 to chase.

India showed their attacking intent right from the start of the innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed Tim Southee for a six and a four off the second and third balls of the very first over, making their approach clear. While captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed cheaply for just 8 runs, Jaiswal and Shubman Gill steadied the innings.

Both batters kept playing positively, and at the end of the 1st session, India had raced to 81/1 in just 12 overs. Jaiswal is unbeaten on 45*, while Gill is on 20*. India still needs 278 more runs to win the match, keep the series alive, and stay in contention for the World Test Championship final.
