India had an almost perfect day in Perth, taking control of the first Test. The pitch, which had been lively and challenging on the previous day, flattened out under the hot sun. However, there were still signs of variable bounce, with a couple of deliveries keeping low in the final session, which could be worrying for Australia.

The Indian openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, dominated the day. They batted through two full sessions and increased India’s lead to 218. Australia tried to contain them in the final session with a strategy to bowl dry, managing to give away just 22 runs in 17 overs before drinks.
After the break, India accelerated, scoring 66 runs in the next 14 overs. Jaiswal is now just 10 runs away from a century, while Rahul has been steady, reaching 62. Australia struggled to break the partnership, and the day ended with India in a commanding position.
