The franchise has decided to retain their core.
The Mumbai Indians franchise announced their list of retained players for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025) auction. The inaugural champions have decided to retain their core and not make much changes by sticking with players like captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, and Yastika Bhatia.
Harmanpreet is expected to take up the captaincy role once more, with Yastika slated to serve as the wicketkeeper. Dynamic all-rounder Hayley Matthews has also been retained by the franchise and is anticipated to open the batting alongside Yastika, continuing their successful partnership.
South African star Chloe Tryon remains with the team, alongside other retained players such as Amanjot Kaur, Amandeep Kaur, Jintimani Kalita, Keerthana B, and Saika Ishaque. Indian players like Pooja Vastrakar and Sajana Sajeevan have also been kept, bringing the franchise’s retained roster to a total of fourteen players for the upcoming season.
On the other hand, Issy Wong’s release was one of the most surprising moves by the Mumbai-based franchise. Other released players include Indian talents like Fatima Jaffer, Humairaa Kaazi, and Priyanka Bala.
“With a heavy heart, with bid goodbye (for now!) to four of our clutch players, who gave us so much joy over the last two years. The ever-smiling Issy Wong, with the first-ever hat-trick in MI’s WPL history, Humariraa Kaazi, Fatima Jaffer and Priyanka Bala with their passion and their all-round skills, will truly be missed,” a statement from Mumbai Indians read on their official website.
