All-rounder Deepti Sharma was absolutely charged up after she took the key wicket of Chamari Athapaththu in the IND-W vs SL-W match in the Women’s World Cup 2025 opener today (September 30).

The Sri Lankan captain was starting to look dangerous with a 43 off 47 balls, before she was forced to depart after Deepti cleaned her up on the final ball of the 15th over.

India’s persistence eventually worked with both offies Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana attacking Chamari with a barrage of attempted yorkers. While some were not properly executed and went to the boundary, Deepti remained consistent till one delivery found its way through and shattered the stumps.

Notably, this is the fifth time the 28-year-old Indian has dismissed the Lankan captain in ODIs.

India lost three of their top batters in one over with Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues falling prey to Inoka Ranaweera in the 26th over.
