Shubman Gill played a lot of exquisite strokes in the GT vs PBKS game during his 96-run knoc, but this one was reminiscent of Sachin Tendulkar playing the on drive.
Shubman Gill, since his U19 days, was earmarked to have a bright future in international cricket. Many experts liked his style of batting and was soon picked to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and at the international level. While he is yet to settle in the Indian team on a consistent basis, the man has already played a couple of brilliant knocks.
His stroke-making is pure and very much pleasing to the eye which was evident during the Border-Gavaskar series in Australia in 2020-21. It is only a matter of time before he starts dominating the highest level as well. Meanwhile, he is currently bossing at the top of the order in the IPL playing for new franchise Gujarat Titans.
And his class batting was yet again on show during the game against Punjab Kings where Gill scored a masterful 96 in a steep chase of 190 for his side. The man hit some exquisite strokes during his stay in the middle but a straight drive at the start of the innings sought a lot of attention as it just resembled the one legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar used to hit.
Sachin, throughout his career, was known to play textbook shots to perfection and his soothing straight drive was arguably the best he ever played. During the second over of the innings, Shubman Gill also played a similar shot off Arshdeep Singh which left many in awe.
It was a pitched up inswinging delivery from the left-arm pacer and Shubman Gill just pushed it with supreme timing down the ground through the mid-on. The timing was exquisite on the shot and it goes without saying that the ball raced to the boundary.

As for the match, Gujarat Titans won the thriller on the back of Shubman Gill’s brilliant 96-run knock even as Rahul Tewatia finished the game with two sensational sixes off the last two deliveries. Gill is in prime form at the moment having scored 180 runs in three innings with two fifties to his name. He is also the second-highest run-scorer of the season at the moment.
