In the ongoing fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Eden Gardens, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal scripted a new milestone. The 32-year-old took the wicket of KKR skipper Nitish Rana and in the process became the highest wicket-taker in IPL history.
Chahal surpassed Dwayne Bravo in the list of wicket-takers in the competition with the dismissal of Rana, courtesy of an excellent catch from Shimron Hetmyer. Prior to the match, Chahal and Bravo were tied at 183 wickets, but now Chahal’s position at the top of the elite list is cemented. Piyush Chawla is ranked third with 174 wickets, while Amit Mishra has taken 172 wickets.
Chahal’s impressive bowling figures are noteworthy, particularly because a significant portion of his 184 wickets were taken while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, a team that has struggled with its bowling performances over the years. Furthermore, 52 of his wickets were taken at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, a relatively small ground that is notorious for being challenging for bowlers.

Earlier, RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to field first. Of their previous five matches, KKR won three, whereas RR lost four of their last five games. KKR, the two-time IPL winners are currently in the sixth position in the points table, with five wins and six losses with a total tally of 10 points. RR’s campaign has suffered after some recent losses, with the team also having five wins.
