RCB bowler wants to become all-rounder after Ranji Trophy heroics

His latest upskill will hugely benefit RCB in the upcoming IPL 2024 season and open up the team dynamics as they hunt their maiden title.

A Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowler has expressed his desire to convert into an all-rounder after his recent heroics in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024. Interestingly, the cricketer started out as a top-order batter but picked up bowling after being lured by knuckleballs and bouncers. However, he is once again putting in the hard yards with the bat in the nets.

Vijaykumar Vyshak, who was slotted in by the RCB franchise as a replacement for injured batter Rajat Patidar after being unsold in the IPL 2023 auction is reaping the rewards of his batting. Vyshak has begun to stake a claim for the role of a pace all-rounder after some sublime performances in the ongoing Ranji season.

Vyshak, who is diligently working on improving his bowling consistency, played a pivotal role in Karnataka’s one-wicket victory over Railways with a game-changing 64-run partnership alongside Manish Pandey.

Coming in at No.9, Vyshak showcased maturity and calculated risk with a deft knock of 38 runs. His earlier innings also proved crucial, scoring 24 runs to form a valuable 30-run partnership for the ninth wicket with Vidwath Kaverappa, which helped Karnataka secure the innings lead.

Furthermore, Vyshak’s significant contributions were evident in the narrow victory against Tripura, where he played key innings of 50 and 22 runs. He also remained consistent with the ball, claiming a total of 23 wickets in five matches.

Speaking about his recent performances with the willow, Vyshak was quoted as saying by TOI, “I’ve always worked on my batting, I started my cricket career as a batsman and played U-16 as a top-order bat. But as I got older and started bowling well, I concentrated on that. Yet, I did work on my batting whenever I got time.”
