They released Faf du Plessis, their previous captain, before the auction and chose not to bid for him again.
The IPL 2025 auction has concluded, and all 10 teams have finalized their squads. Some players fetched high prices, while others were signed for much less.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who retained three players before the auction, entered the event with a purse of INR 83 crore and acquired 19 players. They now have a squad of 22 players.
The most crucial decision ahead for RCB is selecting a captain for the upcoming season. They released Faf du Plessis, their previous captain, before the auction and chose not to bid for him again. This indicates that the team will need to appoint a new leader for IPL 2025.
Within the current squad, there are three potential candidates who could take on the captaincy role.
Virat Kohli is emerging as the top choice to captain RCB in IPL 2025. Retained for INR 21 crore before the auction, Kohli previously led the team from 2013 to 2021, captaining 143 matches with 66 wins, 70 losses, 3 ties, and 4 no-results, achieving a win percentage of 46.15%. He stepped down to focus on his batting but now seems likely to reassume the role.
With the current squad and fan support, Kohli appears poised to lead RCB again, bringing his experience and legacy back to the captaincy.

Krunal Pandya is a strong contender to lead RCB in IPL 2025. After being released by LSG, RCB bought him for INR 5.75 crore. He has limited IPL captaincy experience, having led LSG in six matches during IPL 2023 when KL Rahul was injured. However, his domestic experience as Baroda’s captain could make him a viable option.
As an all-rounder in RCB’s lineup, Krunal could also benefit from Virat Kohli’s guidance if chosen to lead the team, making him a promising option for the leadership role.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one of the contender for the RCB captaincy in IPL 2025. After being released by SRH, he was picked up by RCB for INR 10.75 crore in the auction. While his IPL captaincy experience is minimal, with only six matches during his time with SRH, Bhuvneshwar has proven leadership skills in domestic cricket, where he currently captains Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
At RCB, he is expected to lead the bowling attack, forming a formidable partnership with Josh Hazlewood.
