Australia Duo, Unknown Domestic Star Shine for Punjab Kings in Intra Squad Game Ahead of IPL 2025 Season

The 20-year-old has caught attention with his explosive power-hitting ability.

Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Punjab Kings (PBKS) batters have announced their intent with some blistering knocks during the intra-squad game. Apart from Australian firepower in Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Aaron Hardie, domestic star Pyla Avinash stole the show. His knock of 38 not out from 16 balls included some serious six-hitting skills. The ball not only crossed the ropes but reached the tier two stands of the stadium.

The 20-year-old has caught attention with his explosive power-hitting ability. PBKS will aim to make the most of Avinash and finding a spot for him in the XI will be a welcome challenge for the team. They might consider using him as an impact player, giving him the opportunity to showcase his talent.

Watch some of his fiery shots here:

Ahead of the season opener, several teams played intra-squad matches to prepare for the Indian summer league. They later shared glimpses of the intense competition for IPL 2025 on their social media handles. Punjab Kings was among them, naming their teams Team A and Team B for the match. While the Australian duo and Avinash played for Team A, Hardie was part of Team B.

Maxwell hammered a 20-ball 40 while scalping two for 23. His all-round skills will prove to be valuable and PBKS would look to use to make maximum use of his services. Stoinis narrowly missed out on a half-century in the intra-squad match. Returning with 47 runs in 39 balls, Stoinis looks in good touch in this format of the game.

From the opponents, Hardie shone with a 53-run knock out of just 28 deliveries. While the all-rounder did not bowl in this game, his medium pace will be useful to PBKS.

Punjab Kings Look To Turn Fortunes

By now, every Punjab Kings fan must be tired of reading that their team is still chasing its first IPL trophy. After a 17-year drought, PBKS has an exciting opportunity this season under new skipper Shreyas Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to the title in IPL 2024.

Despite some gaps and selection dilemmas, PBKS appears to be a strong side. Many cricket experts believe they will finish in the top four and secure a playoff spot this season.

Punjab Kings will kick off their campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 25 in an away fixture in Ahmedabad.
